3. What documents do I need to bring with me for my application appointment?
Please bring your completed application along with state-issued ID for all adults in the household, along with birth certificates and social security cards for all household members. All household members aged 18 and older will also need to be present for the application appointment.

5. How will I learn the status of my application?
Once we accept your application, we complete a background check to include a review of HUD unpaid balances, a credit check with Alabama Power, and a criminal records check. In many cases, we also complete landlord verifications. It could take up to 30 days for us to have all the necessary information and be able to make an eligible or ineligible determination. Once we add you to the waiting list, you will receive a letter or email letting you know you've been added to the waiting list.
6. What if my application isn't approved?
A notice will be mailed to you with details regarding the denial and options for you should you wish to appeal. In some cases, applicants will be required to wait 12 months before reapplying.

The Public Housing Waitlist could range between 6 months and 18 months. Many factors will determine how long you wait to include what size floor plan you qualify for, and the move-in/move-out activity in the communities.
8. How do I update my information once I'm on the waiting list?
If you move or have a change of contact information after you receive notice that you've been placed on the waiting list, please notify us in writing of the change. It is important for you to keep us informed of your best contact information, or you run the risk of being removed from the waiting list.
